Chairman and Chief Executive of The Optical Express Group, David Moulsdale founded the group in 1991 and, through aggressive organic growth and a highly structured acquisition strategy, has developed the business into a global leader in refractive surgery.
The Group is also renowned as a leader
of selected healthcare services ranging from dental clinics and optical stores,
to a state-of-the-art medical hospital and cosmetic treatment centres.
Optical Express Group’s retail footprint spans Croatia, France, Germany, Holland, Ireland, the UK and the US and Moulsdale has been instrumental in the strategic development of the Group.
The committed serial entrepreneur has also applied his business brain to the development of a cutting edge philanthropy that will soon be launched in the UK.
Since entering the refractive surgery market in October 2002, David Moulsdale has formed an experienced management team and focused their energy on delivering exceptional quality of clinical outcomes and customer service experience to develop a global business. In delivering that, he has recruited many of the world’s opinion leaders and pioneering Ophthalmologists to the Group’s International Medical Advisory Board (IMAB) as special advisors.
Moulsdale’s success has been recognised by numerous prestigious UK and global business achievement awards. In 1998, David Moulsdale received the Scottish Business Achievement Award Trust (SBAAT) award from Princess Anne, The Princess Royal at Holyrood Palace and in the same year the Scottish Entrepreneur of the Year award sponsored by HBOS and PWC. In addition, the Optical Express Group was a winner in The Sunday Times/Virgin Atlantic Fast Track 100 award for revenue, employee and profit 3 years annual compound growth. In 1999, David Moulsdale won the World Young Business Achiever Award in Portugal sponsored by WorldCom.
From 2001 - 2004 he was the Chairman of the Royal National Institute of the Blind, New Appeal Scotland and in 2005 became a Professor of Entrepreneurship at the University of Stirling. David Moulsdale served for 5 years on the board of SBAAT, was a Trustee of the Kelvingrove Refurbishment Appeal in Glasgow and was a Trustee of the Riverside Museum Appeal.
